Chris McGrath & Eden Tehan
developed a hydro energy plant that brings sustainable, affordable and reliable natural power to a remote village on one of Vanuatu's 83 islands. This project now provides power to the community’s health clinic, two schools, church and shop, and has given the community the opportunity to improve their quality of life.

James Hazelton
In 2007, James founded and co-funded a community led microfinance project in eastern Nepal whilst volunteering during a gap year. The project was created to help local farmers improve profitability and farming methods, while strengthening the community by using the profits to improve village living conditions.

Sarah Marino

Sarah is a Donor Relations Manager for Opportunity International Australia, a not-for-profit organisation that exists to provide opportunities for people living in poverty to transform their lives. Who is a social entrepreneur?
Social entrepreneurs are individuals who recognise a social problem and use entrepreneurial principles to organise, create and manage a venture to achieve social change.

At the event you will hear inspiring stories from social entrepreneurs who have implemented socially sustainable ideas into remote communities – for the benefit of the community itself.

See how microfinance is providing opportunities for people
like Ana in the Philippines.

Nine months pregnant, Ana was scavenging for food and scraps on a garbage dump. Now, thanks to a small loan from Opportunity International Australia's microfinance partner TSPI, Ana has a small business of her own and is giving back to street children in her community.
